Food fills the body, faith fills the soul — here’s this weeks’ Sunday Serving 🍲✝️

This Sunday’s homily reminds us:

Those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

Pride and stubbornness can harden our hearts, shutting the door to grace. But humility — far from being weakness — is strength. It allows us to:

  • Give credit to others.
  • Remove jealousy and envy from our lives.
  • Respect the dignity of every person, whether a gardener, gatekeeper, or CEO.
  • Recognize greatness in others and lift them up.

Humility is the openness to treat everyone as equal. When we exalt ourselves, we will almost always be humbled. But when we walk humbly, God Himself exalts us.

🌾 The Parable of the Rice Stalks

A farmer once walked through his field of rice. He noticed that some stalks stood tall and straight, while others bent low toward the ground.

Curious, he plucked a few grains. The tall stalks were nearly empty, while the ones bowing down were heavy and full of rice.

Smiling, he said:

The emptier the stalk, the higher it stands. The fuller it is, the more it bows.

And so it is with people — the proud often have little inside, while the truly great bow in humility.

✨ Food for Thought: True greatness is shown not in how high we stand, but in how deeply we bow to serve others.

🚖 The Cab Driver and the CEO

One morning, a CEO was late for a big meeting. He rushed into his cab and barked at the driver to hurry. The driver smiled, nodded, and calmly drove him through the traffic.

When they reached, the CEO barely looked up and just threw the money at him. But then he noticed the driver stepping out and politely opening the door for an elderly lady who was struggling to get in next.

The CEO paused. Despite having so little, the driver carried himself with dignity and kindness. In that moment, he realized:

I run a big company but can’t even run my temper. This man earns little, yet shows greatness in small acts.

✨ Food for Thought: Humility isn’t about position or pay — it’s about how you treat others when you think no one is watching.

🥤 The Coffee Shop Lesson

Raj walked into his favorite coffee shop in his flashy new suit, shades on, acting like the world owed him respect. He cut the line, ordered the fanciest latte, and loudly bragged on the phone about his “million-dollar deals.”

When his name was called, he strutted to the counter, winked at the barista, and picked up the cup with style. Only… the lid wasn’t on properly.

One tilt, and the entire latte poured down his pristine suit. Everyone in the café gasped, then chuckled. Raj stood frozen, dripping coffee, his “million-dollar” aura evaporating instantly.

The same peon he once ignored in his office could have told him: “Boss, check the lid.”

Food for Thought: Pride makes you careless. Humility makes you human. Better to laugh at yourself before life makes you the punchline.

Just as a shared meal brings people together, humility nourishes relationships and opens hearts to grace.
