This Sunday’s reading from Habakkuk hits close to home. He’s frustrated, confused, maybe even angry — “Why, Lord? Why do you allow all this to happen?”

Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? We’ve all been there — the job falls through, the deal goes sideways, the test results don’t look good, and we look up at the sky like: “Really, God? This is your idea of a plan?”

Habakkuk’s story reminds us that faith isn’t about understanding everything — it’s about trusting even when nothing makes sense. His final revelation says it best:

“The just one, because of his faith, shall live.”

It’s a mic-drop moment. Faith isn’t our Plan B — it’s the only plan that keeps us standing when everything else shakes.

🚤 Tugboats vs Sailboats

Here’s the part I love — imagine two boats. One’s a shiny sailboat, cruising when the wind’s perfect. But when the storm hits? The sail comes down, the boat just drifts, helpless. Then there’s the tugboat — small, scrappy, built for resistance. Doesn’t wait for perfect weather. Just grinds forward, waves or no waves. That’s the difference between situational faith (when things go our way) and steadfast faith (when nothing seems to). Most of us are sailboats. But God’s inviting us to be tugboats — humble, consistent, unstoppable.

⛓️ A Story of Unshakable Faith

During World War II, in a Nazi concentration camp near Munich, thousands of priests were imprisoned for helping Jewish families escape. Out of 4,000, more than 1,000 died under brutal torture. Yet, those who survived had one thing in common — they never let go of prayer. One priest later said:

“In the darkest nights of suffering, I felt God’s grace more strongly than ever before.”

When faith was all they had, they discovered it was all they needed.

🥴 A Funny Little Parable (Because Faith Needs Humor Too)

A man’s house is flooding. He prays,“Lord, please save me!” Soon a neighbor in a jeep drives by. “Hop in, the water’s rising!” The man says, “No thanks, God will save me.” Then a rescue boat comes. Same answer. Finally, a helicopter hovers above. Still no — “God will save me!” He drowns. Reaches heaven, confused.“Lord, why didn’t you save me?” God replies, “I sent you a jeep, a boat, and a helicopter — what more were you waiting for?”

🚁Moral of the story?

Sometimes faith doesn’t mean waiting — it means moving. It’s about trusting that God’s help might already be right in front of you… in a friend, a stranger, or a small act of courage.

🙏 This Week’s Food for Thought

Faith isn’t the absence of storms. It’s knowing who to call when the waves rise. So the next time life throws you into rough waters, don’t drop your sails and drift. Be a tugboat. Turn your wheel, say a prayer, and push through — because somewhere beyond the storm, calm waters are waiting.
